Why don't travel agents check you in for your flight anymore.

  • Online and Mobile Check-in:

Airlines have embraced technology, allowing passengers to check in online or through their mobile apps, often a few hours before their flight. This eliminates the need for in-person check-in at the airport.

  • Shift of Responsibility:

The responsibility for check-in has moved from the travel agent to the airline and the individual traveler. While travel agents may handle the initial booking, the airline manages the check-in process and provides passengers with boarding passes.

  • Cost Efficiency:

Airlines have found that streamlining check-in through online and mobile channels is more cost-effective and efficient than relying on agents.

  • Increased Control for Travelers:

Passengers gain more control over their check-in process by having the option to choose their seats, check baggage, and manage their booking online.

  • Travel Agent Support:

Travel agents still provide valuable services like booking flights, offering travel advice, and ensuring travelers receive the necessary documentation and instructions for checking in, but they no longer physically check in passengers.  Therefore flight tickets/boarding passes are not sent out in the post anymore.
